Maria Cernat

Maria Cernat is president of the Institute for Media Research and Human Rights and lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences and International Relations, Titu Maiorescu University.
Maria Cernat graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences (class of 2001, specialising in public communication) and from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest (class of 2004). In 2002 she completed her master’s degree at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences. Since 2008 he has a PhD in Philosophy.
Maria Cernat is currently Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Communication Sciences and International Relations, Department of Communication and Public Relations, Titu Maiorescu University. During her academic career she has taught Critical Media Studies, Discourse Analysis, Introduction to Communication Sciences, Ethics and Professional Deontology, Ethics and Corporate Responsibility. She is also the author of numerous articles indexed in international databases such as ISI, Ebsco, ProQuest, etc. As an academic she has coordinated many undergraduate and master’s dissertations on the image of women in advertising, gendered commercial communication, gender stereotypes in public discourse.
Since 2009 she has been a member of the editorial board of the Journal for Politics and Law published by the Canadian Center for Higher Education.
Beyond her academic work, Maria Cernat is involved in activism. Her areas of interest are ethics and academic integrity, feminism, critical theory.
Since 2019 Maria Cernat is an associate member of the Centre for Action, Resources and Training in Academic Integrity (CARFIA) at the University of Bucharest.
Since 2011 she has authored numerous articles published on the political debate website CriticAtac.ro on discrimination, education, academic integrity, privatization of education, commercialization of research and more. Maria Cernat is also a member of the Baricada.org journalistic cooperative, and publishes for Prăvălia Culturală, Adevărul.ro, Gazeta de arte politica.
Since 2019 she is co-host of the podcast On the Barricades where she analyses political and economic issues facing Eastern European countries in particular from a critical perspective .
Since 2018 Maria Cernat has become a volunteer of the FILIA Centre for Curriculum Development and Gender Studies getting involved in protest actions and debates together with the members of the centre. Maria Cernat has also participated in TV shows on feminism, gender-based violence and how to combat this phenomenon.

Marcela Monica Stoica

Marcela Monica Stoica is a university professor and author of numerous papers and articles in the area of media studies and human rights. She holds a degree in biochemistry from the University of Bucharest (1975-1080) and is a graduate of a postgraduate program in communication and public relations studies organized by the National School of Political and Administrative Sciences (1993-1995). Between 2000 and 2003 she studied and graduated from the master’s program of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Dimitrie Cantemir University. She studies as a PhD student in the Erasmus Socrates programme at Sapienza University, Rome. She obtains a PhD in Political Science from the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest in 2011. From 1996 to 1997 she was director of the Marketing and PR department of the Bucharest City Hall. From 1996 to 2006 she was a parliamentary advisor. From 2006 she became an advisor to the Commission for Human Rights and Minorities where she worked until 2022. Since 2010 he has been teaching as a university lecturer at Dimitrie Cantemir University.

Daniel Cernat

Daniel Cernat is secretary of the Institute for Media Research and Human Rights. He graduated Politehnica University of Bucharest, Computer Science Department (class of 2001). In 2008 he completed her master’s degree at the University of Bucharest, Department of Mathematics-Informatics.
Daniel Cernat is currently Senior Manager at the Bitdefender company (IT industry). His area of interest includes also applied mathematics and social activism. He has several awards in mathematics contest (4th place at the National Olympics in Mathematics edition 1995, 3rd place at Traian Lalescu national contest of Mathematics 2008, etc.). His academic activity includes several papers (“Digital Watermarking” 2008, “Secret communication in digital era” 2012, etc.).
